Yoga Meet and Greet

This is a free yoga event for all levels for our members, including their partners, friends and family.

If you haven't had the opportunity to meet our very own, James Sharkey, you may be pleased to know that he teaches yoga as well. James has been kind enough to provide this class to our members at no charge.

Bring those that are close to you and meet your fellow therapist members. It will be important to bring a towel or mat for each participant. All levels of Yoga are welcome, from beginner to advanced.

James teaches vinyasa and hot yoga at Core Power, RY-200 certified. He believes there is no single "right" way to practice "Just breath, movement, and space to reset, guided by what your body needs."

Being a therapist is deeply rewarding, and especially right now deeply demanding. Therapist corner is a moment designed just for us: a place to breathe, connect, and take care of ourselves the way we take care of everyone else.

Here at this monthly gathering we can talk about whatever we need to talk about - the weight of this moment, showing up for our clients while carrying our own emotional load through such a difficult political climate, sharing what’s working…and what isn’t, and reminding ourselves that we are not alone.

This is also a space for genuine community. There is real strength in diversity and here we lean into it together. The spirit of intersectionality we hold that we come to this work from different walks of life – different races, classes, genders, and sexual orientations, and these shape us both professionally and personally.

Therapist Corner will be moderated by members of the Board of Directors of our chapter, CAMFT San Diego, and this is an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and requests.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course content is related to a methodological, theoretical, research, or practice knowledge base. Information provided should help demonstrate the knowledge base being utilized as the foundation of the trainee.

The course content demonstrates relevancy to the practice of marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional clinical counseling, and/or educational psychology and incorporates one of the following:

Aspects of the discipline that are fundamental to the understanding or practice
Aspects of the discipline in which significant recent developments have occurred
Aspects of other disciplines that enhance the understanding of the practice
Related to the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of the client population being served
Demonstrates credibility through the involvement of the broader mental health practices, education, and science communities in studying or applying the findings, procedures, practices, or theoretical concepts Is related to ethical, legal, statutory, or regulatory policies, guidelines, and standards that impact each respective practice

EDUCATIONAL GOAL

Participants will develop a foundational understanding of the Neurodiversity paradigm and its application to clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. This course is intended to build clinical skills in working with Neurodivergent clients and mixed-neurotype relationships, and to support participants in identifying and addressing their own biases in future clinical work.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Attendees will be able to:

Identify 3 core tenets of the Neurodiversity paradigm and explain how they differ from the medical/deficit models.
Describe 3 ways Autism and/or ADHD are commonly misdiagnosed or overlooked in clinical settings.
identify 3 clinical considerations for working with clients who hold co-occurring diagnoses and/or multiple, intersecting identities.

Course Completion certificates will be awarded electronically in exchange for a completed evaluation form. Please make sure the Program Administrator has your correct email.

Course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Partial credit will not be awarded.

Participants must be present for the entire length of the workshop to be awarded credit. Participants will not be given CE credit if they are more than 15 minutes late and/or do not stay for the entire length of the workshop.

This course is provided by the San Diego Chapter of the California association of marriage and family therapists (Provider #57330) is approved by the California association of marriage and family therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs. PRESENTER

Mady Snyder, LMFT is a multiply Neurodivergent Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles. She specializes in Neurodiversity-Affirming care, particularly with Autistic and ADHD individuals and mixed-neurotype relationships. She is passionate about educating therapists, organizations, and individuals on Neurodiversity-Affirming care, with a focus on shifting systems toward approaches that honor autonomy, identity, and lived experience. Her work bridges clinical practice and systems-level change. Outside the therapy room, she consults with practices and organizations working to move beyond surface-level inclusion toward genuinely Neurodivergent-affirming policies and practice. Mady is also a frequent presenter and trainer, sharing her clinical and research-informed perspective with professional audiences on topics ranging from Autistic relationships to the lived experience of Pathological Demand Avoidance across the lifespan.

Description

Learn from CAMFT's expert attorneys in a Law and Ethics webinar series to support your practice.

This law and ethics-focused training is designed for mental health professionals who are paneled with insurance companies, considering becoming in-network, or seeing clients who wish to use out-of-network benefits. While insurance provides increased access to care, it also introduces complex legal and ethical obligations. During the training, Ms. Jasper will discuss how to fully inform patients about insurance issues at the outset of treatment, bill accurately and respond to records requests and audits in a manner that complies with state and federal confidentiality laws.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Identify essential insurance-related disclosures that must be included in the informed consent process at the outset of treatment.
Implement informed consent procedures that fully notify patients about insurance issues and financial responsibilities at the start of treatment.
Execute accurate billing practices to ensure compliance with insurance company requirements and professional standards.
Identify common reasons for insurance record requests and audits.
Respond to records requests and insurance audits effectively while maintaining adherence to state and federal confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA.

Presenter

Sara Jasper, Esq., CAMFT Staff Attorney grew up in the Sacramento area. She graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Chico with a B.A. in Journalism. While attending CSUC, Sara Interned for Scripps Howard News Service in Washington, D.C. and served as an editor for the award-winning weekly student newspaper, The Orion. Sara attended The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law where she served as a library research assistant to professors on campus. During law school, she also clerked for the California Judicial Council, Center for Children, Families & the Courts and for the National Center for Youth Law. Until she moved to San Diego last fall, Sara was on the Board of Directors for Sacramento Court Appointed Special Advocates (C.A.S.A.) and is a member of the State Bar of California. Prior to joining CAMFT, Sara worked at the private firm of Middleton, Young & Minney, LLP where she specialized in education and employment law. Sara also worked as the Legal Liaison and Administrative Officer in the Office of the Chief of Police for the City of Sacramento for three years. She assumed her role with the City of Sacramento's Police Department upon graduating from law school.
